The Garrett Gilbert era is officially underway in Austin, Texas. The rising sophomore was thrown into the fire as a true freshman during the 2010 BCS National Championship game against Alabama after Texas starting QB Colt McCoy left the game in the first quarter with an injury. Fans in Corvallis got some bad news from the NCAA. Unfortunately, the NCAA denied Oregon State QB Lyle Moevao’s appeal for an additional year of eligibility. Moevao injured his right shoulder during the 2008 season that ultimately led to shoulder surgery. Mack Brown Loses Mom

Texas head coach Mack Brown has lost his mother to cancer. Katherine Brown, 81, was battling pancreatic cancer and passed away on Sunday. Brown was able to fly to his mother’s home state of Tennessee to be with her at the time of her death.
