Tennessee’s QB Tyler Bray sidelined with broken thumb

Tennessee’s bowl hopes (3-2) took a hit this weekend after QB Tyler Bray suffered a broken right thumb in Saturday’s loss to SEC rival Georgia 20-12. Bray broke his thumb late in the fourth quarter when his hand hit a defender’s helmet during a throw. Bray’s injury will sideline the gunslinger for at least six-weeks creating a void at the quarterback position. The Volunteers, who have yet to win a conference game, will miss Bray’s stellar services as he...

Volunteer involuntarily dismissed

A gem of a defensive back has been dismissed from the University of Tennessee.  DB Janzen Jackson is no longer a Tennessee Volunteer according to head coach Derek Dooley.  Coach Dooley announced the star’s dismissal earlier today, but did not elaborate on details and only sited “personal challenges” that “preclude him from the privilege of playing for the University of Tennessee football team.” Jackson, who earned All-SEC Second Team honors in 2010, was expected to be a force in...

Monday night’s Allstate Kick-Off In The Capital game, featuring No. 3 Boise State and No. 10 Virginia Tech, is one of the most highly anticipated season-opening matchups college football has seen in years. While only in the first week of the season, tonight’s game has national title implications. The meeting, which is also the first ever between these schools, will be televised nationally on ESPN at 8:00pm ET from FedEx Field (home of the Washington Redskins) in Landover, MD. When Steve Spurrier isn’t taking jabs at Tennessee, he is busy figuring out how to deal with the NCAA breathing down his team’s back. Last night, it looks like the remaining South Carolina football players who were residing in meager accommodations were told to settle their bills, if any, and move out of the Whitney Hotel. Since the coach’s stern directive, several players were seen packing their bags and moving out of the posh Columbia roadhouse. The Whitney is known...

Dooley hits the refresh button

Greg King and Marlon Walls will join their teammates when Tennessee opens fall practice this Wednesday in Knoxville. King, a linebacker from Memphis, and Walls, a defensive tackle from Olive Branch, Mississippi, were suspended from the team following a bar brawl last month that left an undercover police officer injured. Head coach Derrick Dooley reinstated the two saying that they showed regret and were contrite in their apologies throughout the investigation process. Tennessee has been under a lot of scrutiny this off-season...

OMG! R U Serious?

Technology, you gotta love it.  Tennessee running back Bryce Brown made it official yesterday that he’s leaving the program for good by sending a text message to head coach Derek Dooley. Yes, a text message. You stay classy Bryce! The RB had announced earlier this year that he intended to leave the program, but there was speculation that he might stay. Brown was scheduled to meet with Dooley yesterday to discuss his future with the team, a meeting that many in...

Myles isn’t all smiles

Tennessee might want to think about scrapping their football program and come back in a few years, you know, sort of like Enron. Since college football’s resident diva Lane Kiffin left Tennessee for the younger, sexier, USC, Tennessee and Derek Dooley have been in a tailspin that seems to dive deeper with every passing week. Fresh off Tennessee’s annual Orange and White game Saturday, safety Darren Myles, Jr. celebrated a little too much and was picked up by Knoxville’s...

Stephens’ Volatile Move

Today was no ordinary day for once anticipated starting QB Nick Stephens. Just last week, Stephens assumed he would be the starting QB, the big man on campus, and hopefully lead the Vols to an SEC championship. Unfortunately, he just woke up from this fantasy dream. Tennessee’s new head coach, Derek Dooley, announced yesterday that Nick Stephens was no longer a Vol. Last week, Stephens was slated to be the Vols starting QB with Matt Simms as the understudy. However, after a poor scrimmage, coach Dooley decided...
