Stanford running back Tyler Gaffney is trading in his football helmet for a baseball cap. The would be senior running back is forgoing his final year of eligibility to play professional baseball with MLB’s Pittsburgh Pirates. Gaffney was a two-sport star at Stanford who excelled at both football and baseball. The 2011 Rotary Lombardi Award finalists were named earlier this evening from a strong pool of 12 semi-finalists at a heavily attended announcement party at Houston’s Tasting Room Wine Bar. The Rotary Club of Houston announced the 12 semifinalists for the 42nd annual Rotary Lombardi Award (RLA) awarded to the best college football lineman or linebacker. Hall of Famer and legendary Stanford QB John Elway got duped out of approximately $15 million from a hedge-fund manager who was recently arrested for running a multi-million dollar Ponzi scheme. The Stanford grad, who happened to be an econ major, and his business partner invested their millions with 42 year-old Sean Mueller. Hyundai, known for manufacturing cars, is trying their hand at the college football arena. The Sun Bowl will be sponsored by Hyundai for the next four seasons.
