Dr. Rice hits the recruiting trail

In an attempt to find harmony between academics and athletics, former Secretary of State and current Stanford political science professor, Condoleezza Rice, is taking on an additional position as a Cardinal recruiter. Dr. Rice is poised to attract top blue-chip recruits for all Stanford sports but most importantly, football. Dr. Rice is no stranger to Stanford or football and she should be a natural fit in her new position.

During Dr. Rice’s Stanford years, she immediately got involved with the football team by becoming a member of the search committee that ultimately hired Dennis Green in 1989. She then helped find coach Bill Walsh after Green departed for the NFL. Most recently, she was the honorary captain of the Stanford football team during last year’s thrilling 45-38 victory over the Irish. Additionally, growing up in Birmingham, Alabama, she became an avid Crimson Tide fan. Her and her father, Rev. Jon Rice, used to sit by the radio and listen to Bear Bryant’s Crimson Tide dominate the field.

If you doubt Rice’s ability, you are in for a surprise. She already convinced TE Davis Dudchock to decommit from Vanderbilt to sign with Stanford. Dudchock’s parents were shocked to learn that their son spoke to the former Secretary of State.

Dr. Rice is a great recruiting tool for Stanford. Her presence should help lift the program out of the shadows of USC, UCLA, and Oregon. She may have not found any weapons of mass destruction serving under President George Bush, but she certainly has the ability to find terrors on the field.
