No Turkey for Ducks

When one thinks of Thanksgiving, turkey, cranberries, stuffing, and grandma’s sweet potato pie all come to mind, but for the Oregon Ducks, there will be no traditional holiday fare this season. The Ducks, who are ready to book their tickets to Glendale, have a rare Friday night game playing host to #17 Arizona. Coach Kelly has the team on a strict schedule and diet which does not include a turkey meal. But not all is lost, as Kelly found...

Washington loses Locker for Oregon

Add one more blow to list of Washington’s (3-5) dull season. The Huskies will face #1 Oregon without the services of starting QB Jake Locker. Locker, who has been one of the year’s biggest disappointments, suffered a fractured rib last Saturday against Stanford after taking several brutal hits in the game. The Huskies’ QB had been bothered by cartilage damage to the same rib since playing Oregon State, but continued playing through the injury. “It was something that was checked out and making sure nothing changed...

Darron Thomas is the new Duck in town

In the post-Masoli era, it looks like Eugene found its new triggerman much to the satisfaction of the Oregon faithful. Yesterday, QB Darron Thomas was named the starting quarterback for the Oregon Ducks. Thomas was in a heated QB battle with fifth year senior Nate Costa that lasted all preseason. Fans were getting antsy as to who would be their starter when the season kicks off September 4th against the Lobos. Coach Chip Kelly opted for the red-shirt sophomore...

Masoli to resurface at Ole Miss?

Don’t  look now but former Oregon QB Jeremiah Masoli could end up in the SEC at Ole Miss. Life after Jevan Snead is underway in Oxford and the Rebels are heading into the 2010 season lacking depth at QB. As of now, the Rebs are carrying only two scholarship quarterbacks on the roster after Raymond Cotton’s transfer was confirmed yesterday. It has been rumored that Masoli has shown interest in playing for Houston Nutt at Ole Miss, but Nutt has...

OU kicker beat, knocked unconscious

The Oregon Ducks are not having a good week. First, late Saturday or early Sunday morning, Oregon’s kicker Rob Beard sustained severe head injuries and multiple fractures to his face after stepping into a fight to help his fellow teammate Mike Bowlin (it’s unclear if he stepped in to break up the fight or to assist Bowlin in fighting). At first, Bowlin was involved in a verbal altercation with several party-goers but the altercation quickly turned physical. Seeing his friend...

The times have changed for the Big 10

“The SEC has a lot more speed-type people. They (the Big Ten) have a lot more big guys. We’ve got great receivers and running backs to try to take advantage of something Penn State doesn’t have.” LSU QB Jordan Jefferson prior to PSU’s speed and defense dominating the game. As the bowl season is coming to an end, the most impressive and improved performance by any conference as a whole was the Big 10. As of late, the conference...

To be Blount, Oregon doesn’t need him

Chip Kelly is still mum on the reinstatement of Oregon’s LeGarrette Blount. As you recall, Blount in an act of stupidity and cowardliness, was suspended on opening night after sucker punching Boise State’s DE Byron Hout. Initially, Blount received a season long suspensions, but now that Oregon is starting to gel and is inching its way towards a BCS birth, Kelly is rethinking the severity of the suspension. The reality of the situation is quite simple, if Oregon was...

Clipped Wings?

The Ducks are keeping their beaks shut about the severity of QB Jeremiah Masoli’s knee injury sustained during Oregon’s 52-6 victory over ailing Washington State. Masoli took a tough sack in the first half of the game and a few plays later he left for good. During the second half, he was on the sidelines wearing his Duck warm-up suit. As of yesterday, Masoli finally joined the practice squad, but is playing on a limited basis. There are conflicting...
