10 football programs that could benefit from conference realignment

The impending move of Texas A&M to the SEC ushers the captivating conference expansion saga into its second year. With the Pac 10 now the Pac 12, the Big 10 now a 12-team league and the Big 12 now a ten-team (soon to be nine-team) league, it’s blatantly obvious that further movement will eventually occur. Speculation about possible 14-or 16-team “super-conferences” has college football fans hoping their programs will benefit from the massive changes and not be left out...

Kansas State’s new mascot, EcoKat?

Everyone should do his or her part when it comes to protecting the environment, but eco- and football don’t really mix unless you are from Kansas State—so the school thought.  In a bold environmental initiative, Kansas State unofficially introduced its new female mascot, EcoKat, the “crusader of conservation and fanatic of fluorescents.” Within minutes of the tree-hugger themed mascot going viral, disgruntled K-State fans hit the internet proclaiming their “dislike” of  the eco-friendly mascot.  Among recent tweets: “#EcoKat makes...

Longhorns crushed, CB Chykie Brown out for the season

The Texas Longhorns (4-5, 2-4 in Big XII play) continue to run-a-muck in the world of irrelevance and Coach Mack Brown cannot seem to temper the mood. This past Saturday, Kansas State embarrassed the Longhorns with a 25 point beat down in a 39-14 demolishing of Texas. The team is in panic mode dropping 5 of their last 6 games with two top 25 teams left on their schedule (Oklahoma State and Texas A&M). To make matters worse, senior...

WR Blackmon returns to action in Stillwater

Stillwater got a little relief today as potential coach of the year Mike Gundy announced WR Justin Blackmon is back on the field after serving a one game suspension for a pending DUI charge. Blackmon returns just in time as No. 19 Oklahoma State (7-1, 3-1) takes on No. 22 Baylor (7-2, 4-1) this Saturday with huge conference implications. The winner takes the lead in the race for first place in the division. In Blackmon’s absence, Oklahoma State struggled...

Is Kirk Ferentz the most overrated coach in college football? Pt. 2

The first part of this Iowa news series received such a warm reception by Hawkeye Nation, hopefully part two promises more of the same. Apparently, Hawkeye football in Iowa is more popular than corn subsidies. Iowans from Sioux City to Waterloo either left comments or shot-off emails, sticking up for their head coach, with some using a few choice words to do so.  Nonetheless, I would not expect any different from any true college football fan in coming to the aid and defense of their...

OMG! R U Serious?

Technology, you gotta love it.  Tennessee running back Bryce Brown made it official yesterday that he’s leaving the program for good by sending a text message to head coach Derek Dooley. Yes, a text message. You stay classy Bryce! The RB had announced earlier this year that he intended to leave the program, but there was speculation that he might stay. Brown was scheduled to meet with Dooley yesterday to discuss his future with the team, a meeting that many in...

Wildcat limp

Leadership in Manhattan, Kansas recently took a big fall. Kansas State’s second term head coach Bill Snyder tore his ACL and MCL during spring practice on Thursday. The 70 year old ball coach was standing in the direct path of DT Prizzell Brown and OL Ethan Douglas when they were wrestling each other to the ground during a tackling drill. As a result, about 600 pounds came tumbling onto Snyder’s right knee causing the tear. Snyder tried to keep his injury hush-hush,...

K-State’s Banks Arrested

Not only was Kansas State’s Brandon Banks honored as the Big XII’s Special Teams Player of the Year, but he also just received another award, the first Wildcat senior to return four kicks for a touchdown, be the team’s leading receiver, and land behind bars all in the same season. Early this morning, the Manhattan star was arrested by Riley County police on suspicion of battery and unlawful possession of a stimulant. As of yet, no other details were...
