10 football programs that could benefit from conference realignment

The impending move of Texas A&M to the SEC ushers the captivating conference expansion saga into its second year. With the Pac 10 now the Pac 12, the Big 10 now a 12-team league and the Big 12 now a ten-team (soon to be nine-team) league, it’s blatantly obvious that further movement will eventually occur. Houston, we have a QB problem

Not only did Houston get slaughtered by UCLA this past Saturday (13-31) the Cougars left Pasadena down two quarterbacks who suffered season ending injuries. The biggest loss for Houston was star quarterback Case Keenum going down. Keenum tore his right ACL when he slipped trying to make a tackle after a second quarter interception. Back-up quarterback Cotton Turner will also miss the rest of the season after he fractured his clavicle during the 3rd quarter of the game. Cougar...

Tulane (1-1) got one of its legs clipped yesterday as freshman kicker Cairo Santos has been declared ineligible pending an NCAA investigation. Santos’ high school transcript and ACT scores are at the heart of the inquiry. Cairo was a Brazilian exchange student who attended St. Joseph Academy in St. Augustine Florida. Apparently, his scores improved so much that it shocked the NCAA clearing house. Santos had an impressive 8 point jump in his ACT score from the first time...

Houston WR Patrick Edwards sues Marshall à la cart

Houston WR Patrick Edwards is doing what every American does when things turn south, file a lawsuit. Houston football coach Kevin Sumlin received a late Christmas gift earlier this week. Fresh off the heels of one of Houston’s best football seasons, Sumlin was awarded a contract extension that will keep him at Houston through the 2015 season. The contract still must be approved by the Texas Board of Regents, but barring any unexpected setbacks, the deal should be made official on Monday. Sumlin’s name had quite a bit of buzz a few weeks ago for a...

Kragthorpe gets the boot

The unemployment rate in Louisville just increased by one today as Louisville fired head coach Steve Kragthorpe. This should come as no surprise seeing how Louisville finished the season with a 4-8 record after taking a beating against Rutgers 34-14 this past weekend. Kragthorpe lead the team to its worst season in over a decade and had a paltry 15-21 record in his three seasons after taking control upon the departure of Bobby Petrino in 2007. Kragthorpe may not...
