Houston, we have a QB problem

Heisman hopeful Case Keenum (#7) suffered a season ending injury during the 2nd quarter of Saturday’s loss to UCLA.

Not only did Houston get slaughtered by UCLA this past Saturday (13-31) the Cougars left Pasadena down two quarterbacks who suffered season ending injuries. The biggest loss for Houston was star quarterback Case Keenum going down. Keenum tore his right ACL when he slipped trying to make a tackle after a second quarter interception. Back-up quarterback Cotton Turner will also miss the rest of the season after he fractured his clavicle during the 3rd quarter of the game. Cougar fans saw a total of five different QBs throw the ball in the losing effort.

Coach Sumlin must now burn the midnight oil to figure out what his QB plans are going to be for the remainder of the season. Sumlin can no longer turn to his QB record holder for passing yards, touchdown passes, pass attempts, pass completions and total offense. Sumlin better come up with something quick, or this will be a very long season.

As a fifth year senior, Keenum will need to apply for an NCAA waiver if he has any intentions of returning to the field in 2011. Meanwhile, look for true freshman Terrance Broadway to finish out the season as he showed the most promise against UCLA.
