Charlie Strong Nets a Huge Raise

In return for Charlie Strong and the Louisville Cardinals dismantling the Florida Gators 33-23 in the 2013 All-State Sugar Bowl, the university is rewarding the head coach handsomely. The school agreed to a long-term contract with Strong that makes him one of the highest paid D1 football coaches in the nation. While there has been a whirlwind of coaches being fired as of late, Strong inked an eight-year deal worth $3.7 million per year plus incentives up to $583,333...

Florida’s Leon Orr accepts deferred prosecution agreement

Florida defensive tackle Leon Orr, who was charged with possession of marijuana earlier this month, agreed to a deferred prosecution agreement. Under the agreement, the reserve defensive tackle was fined $50 and will either have to serve 12.5 hours of community service or pay an additional $150 fine. Moreover, Orr must stay out of trouble for six months or he will face prosecution for failing to fulfill the requirements of the agreement. Orr’s penalties may not seem harsh, but...

Two more players leave Gator nation

With the Florida Gators continuing to struggle in the win column (6-6, 3-5 SEC), players are starting to pack their bags and move forward. Most recently, head coach Will Muschamp lost two more players who elected to transfer on Tuesday. Redshirt freshmen safety Josh Shaw and defensive end Lynden Trail have departed Gainesville to pursue football careers elsewhere. Shaw saw playing time primarily during special teams while Trail did not see any action this season. Both players were highly recruited by...

Chris Rainey’s championship ring stolen

Two Gators, Chris Rainey (who is finally on the other side of the law) and Moses Jenkins, were victims of burglary this past weekend when their home was robbed early Sunday morning in the 3300 block of Southwest 42nd Street. Both players lost significant possessions of value to include Rainey’s 2008 National Championship ring, 10 pairs of Jenkins’ shoes, a Gucci duffel bag, a tv, and a PlayStation. Though details are still sketchy, the break-in was reported by a player’s friend who discovered...

Urban Meyer: QB Brantley and OC Addazio are here to stay

Despite heavy rumors and Gator fans calling for Steve Addazio’s head after another disappointing loss, Coach Urban Meyer confirmed yesterday that he has no intentions of firing his offensive coordinator. Addazio has been under fire for Florida’s lackluster offense and horrific play calling as Florida is in the midst of its first three-game losing streak at home since the Reagan administration. This is unacceptable for what Urban Meyer considers an “elite” program. Rather than blaming play calling, he attributes...

It’s good to be Chris Rainey

Suspended Gator WR Chris Rainey has dodged the proverbial bullet today as long as he stays out of trouble for 6 months, performs 10 hours of community service, and undergoes an anger management evaluation. The stud receiver will no longer face felony charges for sending threatening text messages to his ex-girlfriend. Rather, he has agreed to a deferral to a misdemeanor charge. The Gainesville state attorney Bill Cervone believes there was no imminent danger to the victim making a misdemeanor...

Pouncey to freshman: “shut up and play”

In a post practice interview, Florida’s OL Mike Pouncey, in a jokingly but spirited way, displayed his fondness of arrogant freshman. In perhaps a motivational tool, he is asking the freshman to zip their mouths and show why they were the top class when they take the field. This year’s recruiting class was arguably #1 in the nation, and with that title, there comes a bit of unwarranted cockiness. As Pouncey pointed out in his interview, all the freshman may have been...

Tebow just does it

There is still question as to where Tim Tebow lands in NFL lore, but before he even has an NFL team to speak of, sponsors are lining up at the door trying to sign arguably the most popular college football player ever. The first major sponsor to nab Tebow is Nike. Nike’s clientele includes superstars such as Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Tiger Woods and Lance Armstrong. Tim Tebow may not belong in the same sentence as those...
