Florida’s Leon Orr accepts deferred prosecution agreement

Florida Gator Leon Orr better get his act together if he hopes to continue to wear the Gator uniform.

Florida defensive tackle Leon Orr, who was charged with possession of marijuana earlier this month, agreed to a deferred prosecution agreement. Under the agreement, the reserve defensive tackle was fined $50 and will either have to serve 12.5 hours of community service or pay an additional $150 fine.

Moreover, Orr must stay out of trouble for six months or he will face prosecution for failing to fulfill the requirements of the agreement. Orr’s penalties may not seem harsh, but this is his first run-in with the law. He was busted with less than 20 grams of marijuana in his on-campus dorm room earlier this month.

Since head coach Will Muschamp took over for Urban Meyer in January 2011, nine players have been arrested, six involving marijuana. Though all six marijuana cases ended with deferred prosecution, it is a telling story that there is a marijuana problem in the Florida locker room.

Coach Muschamp better consider strengthening his drug policy or more players are going to turn to the pipe and rolling paper knowing there are no consequences.

Orr, a 6-foot-5, 310 pound redshirt freshman, amassed 10 tackles and one sack for the 2011 season. Muschamp was made aware of the situation and will handle this matter internally.
