Two more players leave Gator nation

Safety Josh Shaw turned in his Gator uniform, elected to transfer.

With the Florida Gators continuing to struggle in the win column (6-6, 3-5 SEC), players are starting to pack their bags and move forward. Most recently, head coach Will Muschamp lost two more players who elected to transfer on Tuesday. Redshirt freshmen safety Josh Shaw and defensive end Lynden Trail have departed Gainesville to pursue football careers elsewhere.

Shaw saw playing time primarily during special teams while Trail did not see any action this season. Both players were highly recruited by Urban Meyer in 2010. Shaw, from Palmdale, California, stated he wanted to be closer to his family while Trail stated that it wasn’t working out for him on the field.

Muschamp said the departure talks went well and were very professional. He did not restrict the players from transferring and released them to play football at any other school.

It is not uncommon for players to transfer, but it does say something about Will Muschamp and the direction of the program. Muschamp already lost 11 players to attrition since he took the helm. In fact, Florida is limited to 68 roster players for its upcoming bowl game. A significant reduction from the NCAA allowable 85 players.

Muschamp will need a strong recruiting class come 2012 as the depth chart in several positions is very thin, most notably at the defensive end position.
