Former head coach Michael Haywood sues Pitt for $3.75 million

For Pitt fans, coach Michael Haywood was a short lived memory as he was fired by Pitt Executive Vice Chancellor Jerome Cochran 17 days into his supposed five-year tenure.  Haywood returns to Pittsburgh with a complaint in-hand suing the University if Pittsburgh for $3.75 million dollars for breach of contract. On September 19, 2011, Haywood filed his civil suit in the U.S. District Court of Pennsylvania (Western District).  In his nine page complaint, he claims, among other things, that...

Tom Bradley: from Nittany Lion to Pitt Panther

Word on the street is Pitt found its new head coach to replace the abruptly fired Mike Haywood with the hiring of Penn State staple and defensive coordinator Tom Bradley. Though neither Pitt nor Penn State confirmed the move, sources close to the team say it’s a done deal. Two Penn State players received text messages from Bradley that suggested he was offered the job and will ultimately take it once the contractual terms are ironed out. Bradley was...

I didn’t hear no bell! Wannstedt gets one more round

Despite being forced to resign this past Tuesday, I mean fired, former Pittsburgh coach Dave Wannstedt will not go away without a fight. According to defensive coordinator coach Phil Bennett, Wannstedt agreed to be the acting coach when Pitt faces Kentucky in the BBVA Compass Bowl next month in Birmingham, Alabama. So if you want to see the fiery Wannstedt one last time under the helm, head out to Legion Field on January 8th because on January 9th, Wannstedt...

The Big (East) Debacle

The Big East continues to sink further into the depths of irrelevance and the calls for the conference to lose its automatic qualifying bid grow louder and louder. As we are well into the college football season, there is no Big East team in the Top 25. The conference has failed miserably in its non-conference play boasting a combined record of 19-14, average at best. However, when you consider 9 out of the 19 wins came against DI-AA teams,...

“Hey, I play for Pitt football. Please don’t arrest me!”

Coming off of a successful win against powerhouse New Hampshire, the Pittsburgh Panthers running game took a severe hit on Sunday. Back-up RB Jason Douglas must have been partying a little too hard after the victory on Saturday as he was charged with running over a pedestrian and fleeing the seen of the accident. According to eyewitnesses, the redshirt freshman RB apparently hit some poor kid crossing the street near East Carson and 22nd Street early Sunday morning. In...

Pitt’s Sheard goes MMA, suspended indefinitely

Pittsburgh’s Jabaal Sheard took out whatever frustrations he had built up on Edward Parker this past weekend.  As Sheard and Parker were jawing at each other Saturday night on East Carson Street in front of LaFond Gallery, something set the two off and the brawl began. The DE and top pass rusher threw Parker into a storefront window and proceeded to beat the living crap out of him. When Parker fell to the ground defenseless, Sheard continued to throw the...

Taglianetti tears ACL

The University of Pittsburgh announced that sophomore safety Andrew Taglianetti tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the Panthers victory over Buffalo 54-27. Since the injury occurred early in the season, Taglianetti can move for a medical redshirt giving him another year of eligibility. As it stands, Taglianetti will undergo surgery this year and junior Elijah Fields will take over as starting safety. Dave Wannstedt stated, “He is an important performer on and off the field for us....

Pitt decides to Just Do It

Corporate America, or should I say Nike, has taken over the University of Pittsburgh athletic department. Yesterday, the Pitt Panthers unveiled their new Nike football uniforms that are akin to Georgia Tech’s. There are three noticeable differences that traditional Pitt fans dislike. First, there is the addition of the Nike swoosh logo on the upper left shoulder. Second, Pitt is not written in its traditional script format; rather, Pitt is in small block letters above the player’s front number. Finally, the blue and mustard yellow color scheme...
