Speed can kill

Coming off of a successful win against powerhouse New Hampshire, the Pittsburgh Panthers running game took a severe hit on Sunday. Back-up RB Jason Douglas must have been partying a little too hard after the victory on Saturday as he was charged with running over a pedestrian and fleeing the seen of the accident. According to eyewitnesses, the redshirt freshman RB apparently hit some poor kid crossing the street near East Carson and 22nd Street early Sunday morning. In a fit of panic, Douglas fled the scene after the impact.

Based on eyewitness reports, the police found Douglas trying to park his damaged car near the 1700 block of Sarah Street. Police asked Douglas to step out of his vehicle and in a drunken stupor, he told the officer that he was a Pitt football player and he shouldn’t be arrested. Unfortunately for Douglas, the arresting officer was presumably a Penn State fan who didn’t want to hear anything about Pitt football. Douglas blew a .178 and was charged with causing an accident resulting in serious injury, aggravated assault, underage drinking, and DUI.  The victim, Christopher Paul, is currently hospitalized with head and neck injuries.

The Opa-locka, Florida native amassed 8 yards off of 3 carries in two games for the Panthers. Coach Wannstedt immediately suspended the redshirt freshman upon hearing of the news. Douglas is scheduled to appear in court this Thursday for a preliminary hearing. He is currently out on bond.
