Moore deserving Heisman

The Heisman Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the most outstanding player in college football. If the voting were to take place today, there is no question Boise State QB Kellen Moore is the most deserving candidate. Moore is everything the trophy represents personally and statistically. He is having a monstrous junior year amassing 2,372 yards with 21 TDs leading the Broncos to an 8-0 record. He has remarkable accuracy only throwing 4 INTs in 226 attempts. Moore is a...

The Impending Battle Out West

Although the season is still young, a potential game of epic proportion is looming out west. Reno, Nevada, could possibly be the site of college football’s most anticipated game of the year this November 26th when the Boise State Broncos come to town to take on the Nevada Wolf Pack. Tickets will be scarce as national title implications will more than likely be on the line when the two teams meet on the gridiron. College football analysts and followers...

Boise State’s DJ Harper is out for the season

It’s official. Boise State’s RB D.J. Harper tore his ACL and is out for the season. Harper injured his left knee for the second straight season during Saturday’s win over Oregon State. The injury occurred when he was making a cut on the field. When he went down, Harper quickly grabbed his knee and was taken to the sideline. After some stretching, he returned to the game finishing with 3 carries for 21 yards despite a ligament tear. This is a big...

Bloody Red Sea

If you thought the Smurf Turf of Boise State was bad, wait until you see the bloody sea of red making its debut this Saturday as Eastern Washington hosts FCS Montana. To the boosters, Eastern Washington’s field is officially known as “Roos Field” named after alum and Tennessee Titan Michael Roos, but to the fan faithful, their beloved team will now be playing on “Blood Field.” This cornea unfriendly turf will certainly be a considerable home field advantage for...

Broncos buck the Hokies

It was a BCS-like bowl atmosphere inside FedEx Field last night as the Halloween themed Hokies took the field in the Battle in the Capital. Unfortunately, this game was no treat for VaTech as they fell to the Broncos 33-30. A stadium littered with drunk and screaming Hokies fans, quickly quieted as Boise State recovered a fumbled snap, blocked a punt, and held VaTech scoreless in the 1st quarter while taking a commanding 17-0 lead. After Tech overcame the nervous jitters,...

Boise State RBs Coach Arrested

It looks like some folks in Boise are celebrating prematurely in anticipation of a Broncos win over the Virginia Tech Hokies on Monday night. Earlier this morning, Boise State running backs coach Keith Abu Bhonapha was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. According to the police report, Idaho State Police pulled over and arrested Bhonapha a little before 2:00 a.m. this morning on Meridian Road outside of Kuna. Per coach Chris Petersen, the 30 year-old RBs coach will...

Despite no winning seasons, Hawkins wants contract extension

In his four years as head coach and taking the Colorado Buffaloes from bad to worse, the obvious next step for the AD is to give head coach Dan Hawkins a contract extension. At least that’s the mindset of coach Hawkins. Currently, the coach is under contract through January 2013 but still feels the need for an extension. During an AD and coaches meeting over the summer, Hawkins was asked what can be done to improve the football team’s...

Is Kirk Ferentz the most overrated coach in college football? Pt. 2

The first part of this Iowa news series received such a warm reception by Hawkeye Nation, hopefully part two promises more of the same. Apparently, Hawkeye football in Iowa is more popular than corn subsidies. Iowans from Sioux City to Waterloo either left comments or shot-off emails, sticking up for their head coach, with some using a few choice words to do so.  Nonetheless, I would not expect any different from any true college football fan in coming to the aid and defense of their...
