It’s official. Boise State’s RB D.J. Harper tore his ACL and is out for the season. Harper injured his left knee for the second straight season during Saturday’s win over Oregon State. The injury occurred when he was making a cut on the field. When he went down, Harper quickly grabbed his knee and was taken to the sideline. After some stretching, he returned to the game finishing with 3 carries for 21 yards despite a ligament tear. This is a big loss for Boise as he has shown flashes of greatness and is a strong team leader inside the huddle. Harper is most remembered by Hokie fans for his 71 yard TD run in the Broncos thrilling 33-30 defeat of Virginia Tech on Labor Day.
Unfortunately for Harper, he is no stranger to ACL injuries. In 2009, he tore his ACL in the 3rd game of the season and was awarded a medical redshirt. The Cypress, Texas native may be eligible for a sixth year of eligibility if the school decides to petition the NCAA due to his most recent injury.
In the meantime, look for senior RB Jeremy Avery to pick up extra carries with the loss of Harper.
