If you thought the Smurf Turf of Boise State was bad, wait until you see the bloody sea of red making its debut this Saturday as Eastern Washington hosts FCS Montana. To the boosters, Eastern Washington’s field is officially known as “Roos Field” named after alum and Tennessee Titan Michael Roos, but to the fan faithful, their beloved team will now be playing on “Blood Field.”
This cornea unfriendly turf will certainly be a considerable home field advantage for the home team. The next question is, when will Texas opt for the burnt orange field? Hopefully, schools will realize gimmicky fields will not equal success. Go for the traditional green turf or natural grass and use the extra cash to recruit some top athletes and swoop up some victories.
