Is Kirk Ferentz the most overrated coach in college football? Pt. 2

The first part of this Iowa news series received such a warm reception by Hawkeye Nation, hopefully part two promises more of the same. Apparently, Hawkeye football in Iowa is more popular than corn subsidies. Iowans from Sioux City to Waterloo either left comments or shot-off emails, sticking up for their head coach, with some using a few choice words to do so.  Nonetheless, I would not expect any different from any true college football fan in coming to the aid and defense of their...

OMG! R U Serious?

Technology, you gotta love it.  Tennessee running back Bryce Brown made it official yesterday that he’s leaving the program for good by sending a text message to head coach Derek Dooley. Yes, a text message. You stay classy Bryce! The RB had announced earlier this year that he intended to leave the program, but there was speculation that he might stay. Brown was scheduled to meet with Dooley yesterday to discuss his future with the team, a meeting that many in...

Wildcat limp

Leadership in Manhattan, Kansas recently took a big fall. Kansas State’s second term head coach Bill Snyder tore his ACL and MCL during spring practice on Thursday. As a result, about 600 pounds came tumbling onto Snyder’s right knee causing the tear. Snyder tried to keep his injury hush-hush,...

Big Things Expected for K-State’s Banks

Big things come in small packages. Just ask the Kansas State Wildcats. Wildcat WR Brandon Banks only stands 5’7 but he plays like he’s much bigger. The speedster from North Carolina burst onto the scene last season with impressive numbers and snatched up Big XII Offensive Player of the Year honors as a result. He’s been compared to the likes of Reggie Bush, Percy Harvin, and Noel Divine. His road to Manhattan, KS was a non-traditional one that included a...

Snyder Sets Deadline To Name QB

Bill Snyder, the architect of what some consider the greatest turnaround in college football, has given himself and his coaching staff a deadline to name K-State’s starting quarterback for the 2009 football season. Snyder wants to name a starting quarterback by August 29th, a week before the Wildcats’s season opener against UMass. The Wildcats are entering this season without school record-setting quarterback Josh Freeman, and as of now, his replacement has yet to be named. Carson Coffman,  Grant Gregory (South Florida transfer),...

The Big XII

Where do we even begin with the Big XII? The same conference that provided many of highlight reel material for Sports Center on Saturday nights for their fast break offenses also captured the eyes and ears of the college football world as the result of a three way tie near the end of the season. Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas Tech each finished with one loss in conference and Big XII officials were confused on how to deal with the...
