Tressel says he’d have no problem with having a gay football player

College football’s best dressed coach gave a historic interview to a Columbus Ohio magazine that caters to the city’s gay residents. The Columbus Outlook interviewed Ohio State’s Jim Tressel last month where the coach suggested that he’d  openly accept any gay player to the Ohio State Buckeye football family.”We try to tell our guys that an authentic you is the best you,” Tressel told the magazine. “That’s truly what freedom means, and the beauty of living in America. People...

Wisconsin’s Clay Shut Down

The 2009 Big Ten rushing leader will miss all of Wisconsin’s spring practices while recovering from ankle surgery. John Clay, a rising junior, has been plagued with ankle injuries since arriving in Madison and will undergo surgery on his right ankle on March 25th. He also had left ankle surgery in early January of this year as well. Even though a good portion of Clay’s career has been spent battling ankle injuries, he’s still established himself as a premier...

Hindsight Is Always 20/20

There will be some changes on the sidelines in Beaver Stadium this upcoming college football season. Legendary Penn State coach Joe Paterno will be without his sidekick of 44 years, his trademark coke bottle-thick eye glasses. Paterno decided that enough was enough and went in for lasik surgery last month to correct his less than stellar vision. Paterno, a traditionalist, has finally crossed over to the dark side. It will definitely take some time to get used to seeing...

NFL Auditions Begin

The 85th edition of the East West Shrine Game was played yesterday in Orlando, Florida. Northwestern’s Mike Kafka (18-27 150 yards) led the east to the game winning drive by hitting Penn State’s Andrew Quarless with 5 ticks left on the clock. In the huddle I told Kafka, ‘Just throw it up and I’ll make a play.’ He threw a perfect pass,” Quarless said. “It just feels good to go out with a bang.” The Nittany Lions also had a strong showing...

2010 Rose Bowl

The 2010 Rose Bowl (Oregon vs. Ohio State) has Mr. Miles excited for all sorts of reasons. First and foremost, I would like to see nothing more than Oregon QB Jeremiah Masoli get his bell rung one good time by the Buckeye‘s defense. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy watching Oregon and I’ve been impressed with the job that first year coach Chip Kelly has done. But if I have to watch Masoli jump around one more time after...

Penn State will cruise to victory

This has been a rough season for The Matador going 5-5 on his weekly picks. It’s going to change as we inch closer to the regular season’s end. The lock of the week is Penn State (-3) over Michigan State. Penn State has all the drive in the world to win this game big. The Nittany Lions undeservedly have the opportunity to get a BCS at-large bid with a victory. Since Ohio State locked up the Rose Bowl, two...

Pryor will hear it from the fans

This Saturday marks the 300th game being played in Beaver Stadium. For all of my fans who will be joining me this weekend in Happy Valley for the Penn State v. Ohio State match-up, don’t forget to purchase your Terrelle Cryer T-Shirt. The t-shirt pays tribute to Pryor’s last season’s fourth-quarter fumble that ultimately led to PSU’s game winning TD drive. PSU won the game 13-6. After Pryor’s last second hailmary interception, he sat on the bench and wept over the Big Ten title...

Forcier On Track To Play This Weekend

Michigan QB Tate Forcier’s status for Saturday’s game has been in question since sustaining a mild concussion against Iowa. Forcier has been undergoing tests in Ann Arbor with the hopes of being able to play this weekend. The freshman did not practice on Monday after complaining of headaches, but he did do some running during Tuesday’s practice. UM coach Rich Rodriguez said that Foricer will be able to play if he makes Wednesday’s practice. If Forcier’s not ready to go,...
