The 2009 Big Ten rushing leader will miss all of Wisconsin’s spring practices while recovering from ankle surgery. John Clay, a rising junior, has been plagued with ankle injuries since arriving in Madison and will undergo surgery on his right ankle on March 25th. He also had left ankle surgery in early January of this year as well.
Even though a good portion of Clay’s career has been spent battling ankle injuries, he’s still established himself as a premier back in the Big Ten, and arguably the country. The thought of him being fully healthy for a whole year is keeping opposing defensive coordinators in the film room later than usual this spring in anticipation for next season.
Clay finished in the top 10 nationally in rushing yards last season and is expected to make a full recovery in time for fall camp. Wisconsin kicks off spring practices this Saturday.
