Crippled Commodore

Vandy starting defensive end Steve Stone will be sidelined for 6 weeks with  a broken foot. Stone has been a staple on the Vanderbilt D line as he’s started every game for the ‘Dores the past two seasons. He tied for a team best sack total with 5 last season. Vandy will miss his presence on the defensive side of the ball and they’re hoping that they can have him back in time for their October 17th meeting with Georgia.

Brandon Jacobs, (no, not the bulldozer Giants RB) has spurned Auburn University for the Boston Red Sox. The 6’0, 237 lb. RB from Georgia is hanging up his football cleats in favor of baseball spikes. Florida’s Secret Weapon?

Tim Tebow may have a little competition this season at the quarterback position. Ok, maybe I shouldn’t go that far, but Florida defensive back Joe Haden has been taking snaps from under center during Gator practices. Haden played quarterback at Friendly (MD) HS and set several state records for passing. He came to Florida in 2007 as an athlete but didn’t get the chance to compete for a quarterback spot. His athletic ability allowed him the rare opportunity to start at...

The Kiffin Saga Continues…..

First year Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin is in the news again for justifying negative off-season remarks he’s made about fellow conference coaches since being hired. Kiffin is a former Southern California offensive coordinator and Oakland Raiders head coach. He was hired by Tennessee after going just 5-15 with the Raiders.
