Brandon Jacobs, (no, not the bulldozer Giants RB) has spurned Auburn University for the Boston Red Sox. The 6’0, 237 lb. RB from Georgia is hanging up his football cleats in favor of baseball spikes. Jacobs originally committed to the Auburn Tigers as a running back. However, he changed his mind when the Red Sox drafted him in the 10th round of the MLB draft and signed him to a $75,000 contract that has the potential to end up at around $800,000.
The Red Sox have agreed to pay for Jacobs’s Auburn education if he decides to return to school. During his 2008 campaign at Parkview (GA) HS, Jacobs rushed for 1, 577 yards and scored 19 TDs. On the baseball diamond, Jacobs batted .511, hit 7 HRs, 16 RBI, and had a slugging percentage of 1.307.
