The barbershop talk this morning is all about the disappointing week 2 in the ACC. To start, #13 Virginia Tech and Coach Beamer were a complete embarrassment being shocked and upset by James Madison University 16-21 in hostile Lane Stadium. The Hokies showed no signs of discipline turning over the ball 3 times and QB Tyrod Taylor was unable to garner any offense during the upset.
Kansas quickly turned last week’s upset loss to North Dakota State into a distant memory as the Jayhawks bounced back beating defending ACC champs #15 Georgia Tech 28-25. Tech had virtually zero aerial attack and found no open holes in Kansas’ secondary. QB Josh Nesbitt was a paltry 5-15 for 116 yards and one TD.
Meanwhile, #17 Florida State’s trip to Norman was anything but fulfilling. The Seminoles got absolutely annihilated by Stoops and QB Landry Jones 47-17. Jones was a stellar 30 for 40 amassing 380 yards and 4 TDs. His counterpart and no longer Heisman hopeful Christian Ponder was 11 for 28 with 0 TDs and 2 INTs.
The lone ACC team to shine this weekend was supposed to be #12 Miami Hurricanes but as we saw the Canes couldn’t keep up with Pryor and company. QB Jacory Harris should think twice next time he mocks Jim Tressel before he faces the Buckeyes. The colorful Harris was seen wearing a sweater vest à la Tressel as he got off the team bus in an obvious knock on the coach and the team. Ohio State’s response to Harris was picking off the triggerman 4 times in the 36-24 win.
The lone bright spot in the ACC was Virginia’s heroic efforts against SC. The Trojans were lucky to escape the Cavaliers continuous pursuit edging out the win 17-14. The ACC did not go through the week without garnering some wins with NC State, Wake, Maryland and BC all winning, but their victorious were hardly anything to brag about.
Until the ACC starts winning the big games and the games they are supposed to win, the “A” in ACC will always stand for awful.
