ACC disappoints as bowl season ends with 2-6 record

Following West Virginia’s 70-33 rout of 14th ranked Clemson in last night’s Discover Orange Bowl, the ACC is a paltry 2-6 in bowl season play. This record marks the lowest winning percentage for AQ conferences for the 2011 season. It could have been worse, but thanks to Florida State’s heroic efforts in the Champs Sports Bowl edging Notre Dame 18-14 and NC State’s TD victory over Louisville 31-24, the ACC secured two much needed wins. To be fair, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech...

Georgia Tech’s Attaochu gets a slap on the wrist for punching Virginia Tech’s Thomas in the face

College football is all about winning, and when a star player breaks a rule, there is a direct correlation between the talent of the player and the suspension assessed. Case in point, during Thursday night’s game against Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech LB  Jeremiah Attaochu (6-3, 235 lbs.) threw a flagrant punch at Hokie QB Logan Thomas citing an “overdose of adrenaline. Attaochu was flagged with a personal foul for the hit, but was not thrown out of the game....

Alum sues Georgia Tech for unlawful strip search

Georgia Tech alum and avid college football fan Mary Clayton is suing her former school for false arrest, false imprisonment, and for conducting an illegal search stemming from a humiliating strip search back in September 25, 2010 involving a Chick-fil-A sandwich.  Clayton, a season ticket holder, was rushing to her seat as Georgia Tech was ready to kick-off against North Carolina State.  Upon entry into the stadium, Georgia Tech officers stopped her as they suspected she was smuggling a chicken...

The Big 10 flexes its muscles

Looking back before last season, the Big 10 failed miserably come post-season play. However, this season the Big 10 is looking very strong despite struggles from yester-year. On Tuesday, Iowa took down #12 Missouri 27-24 in the Insight Bowl and on Wednesday Illinois, surprising to some, dominated Baylor 38-14 in the Texas Bowl. The conference is starting to show that it is finally out of its slump and returning back to elite status. To the true fan, this turn-around...

Air Force: the better option

Air Force schooled Georgia Tech in old-fashioned style football beating the Yellow Jackets 14-7 in the Advocare 100 Independence Bowl. The Falcons ran the option to perfection much to the delight of the Shreveport faithful. Falcons QB Tim Jefferson handed the ball off to six different backs for a combined 170 yards. Meanwhile, Jefferson would keep the Yellow Jackets’ defense honest by completing 11 passes for 117 yards. Georgia Tech’s defense played stellar holding the Falcons aerial attack to...

Hokies win is a loss for WR Roberts

Virginia Tech won a crucial ACC game Thursday night against Georgia Tech 28-21, but lost a big part of their offense and special teams. WR/KR Dyrell Roberts will miss the remainder of the season after suffering, what was initially thought to me minor, a bruised left leg during the first quarter of the game. Roberts tried to return to the field, but did not see any action in the second half. After the victory, Roberts developed excruciating pain in...

Iowa’s Norm Parker puts his best foot forward

Sadly, Iowa defensive coordinator Norm Parker had his right foot amputated last month due to complications from his battle with diabetes. Though he has been hospitalized since September, head coach Kirk Ferentz is anxiously waiting for Parker’s return to spur an Iowa defensive that ranks 4th in the nation allowing only 242.2 yards per game. Ferentz is more than confident that Parker will be back coaching prior to the end of the season and Parker wants nothing more but to...

Friedgen feeling the pressure as Terps head into ACC play

Carrying an impressive 3-1 record, the Maryland Terrapins will host ACC foe Duke this Saturday at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium in College Park, MD. Saturday’s game against Duke will be Maryland’s first conference game of the season. Although the season is very young, the lack of a presence of a truly dominate team in the conference makes the race for the ACC seem wide open this year. Expectations in College Park, and among Maryland alumni are high for the Terps...
