The Longhorns will Roll over the Tide

The BCS National Championship Game airs tonight with a match-up of #1 Alabama v. #2 Texas. The experts are all saying that Alabama should win this game (some say by 10 though the line is hovering around 4). As it stands, the SEC is 5- 0 in the BCS National Championship Game with most saying the Tide will safely make it to 6-0.

However, in the words of Lee Corso, NOT SO FAST, MY FRIEND! The Longhorns are averaging over 40 points per game and though Texas is a one dimensional offense, Colt McCoy runs it to perfection. Even when he had sub-par games against Oklahoma and Nebraska, Mr. McCoy seems to find a way to win the close games.

This challenge wont be easy for Texas as the Tide are allowing only 11 points per game and boast not only a strong run defense, but the Tide lead the nation in defensive passing efficiency. However, the Tide has yet to face an offense that scores 95% of the time in the redzone with the Longhorns crossing the goal line 71% of the time (compared to Bama’s 45%). Additionally, Texas is tops in the nation with nonoffensive TDs to include 4 INT returns and 2 blocked punts.

Not to take away anything from Alabama and the big uglies, Coach Saban’s team (his offense) is inconsistent, you don’t know what you are going to get. Watch for Mack Brown to have his team composed and focused to take advantage of an inconsistent Tide offense.

Also, Texas has one thing Alabama doesn’t have and that’s the intangible –the aura of the Rose Bowl– as the last time Brown was in Pasadena, Vince Young lead an underdog Texas team over the top-ranked Trojans. Look for Brown to return to Austin with another crystal football.
