Aggies President wants Longhorns

Texas A&M president R. Bowen Loftin recently told the San Antonio Express-News that he still wants the Aggies to play the Texas Longhorns.  In fact, he threw down the gauntlet challenging Texas, “anytime, anywhere.”  However, Loftin was a key factor in moving the Aggies from the Big XII to the SEC all but ensuring an end to the 118-year old historic rivalry. As it stands, Texas is nowhere to be found in A&M’s future schedules but the Aggies do...

Longhorns crushed, CB Chykie Brown out for the season

The Texas Longhorns (4-5, 2-4 in Big XII play) continue to run-a-muck in the world of irrelevance and Coach Mack Brown cannot seem to temper the mood. This past Saturday, Kansas State embarrassed the Longhorns with a 25 point beat down in a 39-14 demolishing of Texas. The team is in panic mode dropping 5 of their last 6 games with two top 25 teams left on their schedule (Oklahoma State and Texas A&M). To make matters worse, senior...

Texas out another RB

The Texas Longhorns were informed by the NCAA that senior tailback Vondrell McGee lost his appeal and is deemed academically ineligible to play this season. Coach Mack Brown was disappointed in the outcome and will certainly miss the services of his senior TB who amassed 973 yards and 14 TDs in the 35 games he played as a Longhorn. The university did state that McGee is still enrolled as a student as is scheduled to graduate this December.

Is Kirk Ferentz the most overrated coach in college football? Pt. 2

The first part of this Iowa news series received such a warm reception by Hawkeye Nation, hopefully part two promises more of the same. Apparently, Hawkeye football in Iowa is more popular than corn subsidies. Iowans from Sioux City to Waterloo either left comments or shot-off emails, sticking up for their head coach, with some using a few choice words to do so.  Nonetheless, I would not expect any different from any true college football fan in coming to the aid and defense of their...

Florida’s Top Gun

When the Florida Gators take the field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on September 4th against Miami Ohio, a new quarterback will lead the offense for the first time in three years. Gator legacy John Brantley will finally get his chance to etch his mark in the annals of Gator history. Brantley has one of college football’s toughest job in years, replacing all-everything Gator and college football legend, Tim Tebow. If the past is any indicator of the future, Gator fans...

Duck Tales

One team’s burden is another team’s treasure. Former Texas DB Marcus Davis has enrolled in classes at the University of Oregon and will more than likely be playing for the Ducks in 2011. Davis was suspended after being charged with possession of a controlled substance and driving while intoxicated in November of last year. He was never able to get back into the good graces of Texas coach Mack Brown and decided to transfer and take his chances elsewhere....

Utah reportedly to join Pac-10 as conference's 12th member

The Pac-10 has invited the Utah Utes to become the newest member of the future Pac-12, and sources are reporting that Utah will happily accept.  Utah officals are holding a press conference tomorrow and Pac-10 officials will be in attendance. If you are a member of the Ute Nation this is undoubtedly great news. This move makes Utah an instant player in the BCS picture and gives the program national exposure.  This bodes well for program revenue and recruiting, something that...

Drive stalled

Texas RB Vondrell McGee has been suspended for one game with the possibility of more depending on the outcome of his pending DWI case. The 5’10 senior from Longview, Texas, was pulled over at 3:07 am Sunday morning by an Austin police officer who observed him driving without his headlights on.  Upon being pulled over, McGee blew a 0.12, the legal limit in the state of Texas is 0.08. He was arrested on the scene and taken in on a...
