Alabama’s AJ McCarron Deserves the Heisman Trophy

The Heisman Trophy is awarded annually to the most outstanding college football player “whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity.” The player that best represents what the Heisman is all about is Alabama’s star quarterback AJ McCarron. McCarron boasts an impressive 34-2 (.944) career record making him one of the winningest quarterbacks in college football history. He has three national championship rings, two of which he won as a starter. The Mobile, Alabama native owns Alabama’s records for...

Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide will be heading to Washington on Wednesday, March 6, to visit with President Barack Obama to be honored for their 2013 BCS National Championship win over Notre Dame.  This is Alabama’s third trip in four years to meet the president and visit the White House.  In a press release, the White House stated Obama will “continue his tradition of honoring sports teams for their efforts both on and off the field by recognizing the efforts...

10 Colleges With the Most Powerful Coaches

Ideally, colleges should be well-known, desirable, and popular because of the high quality of educational resources they offer students and other members of the community. Yet, here in the U.S. that’s not always the case. Many schools’ academic programs are eclipsed by the overwhelming popularity of their sports teams, and for better or worse that has made the coaches and head administrators of these teams incredibly powerful figures that dominate what has now become a billion-dollar industry for colleges...

Mediocrity pays for Ron Zook

How is Ron Zook rewarded for turning in a 7-6 season and a Texas Bowl victory over Baylor…a $250,000.00 raise. Zook, who has been under the helm at Illinois since 2005 has compiled a paltry 28-45 overall record. In return, the University of Illinois wants to thank him by bumping his compensation package, upon board approval, in excess of $1.75 million dollars. After a 3-9 campaign in 2009, the Illini nation was sure Zook would be replaced. Instead, the...

Under Saban, The Tide Has Turned

On January 3, 2007, Nick Saban agreed to become Alabama’s 27th head coach. Both the Tide and Saban were the butt of many jokes across the nation. College football fans from Eugene, OR, to West Palm Beach, FL, were placing bets on how long it would be before Saban left the Crimson Tide for greener pastures elsewhere. Thirty-eight wins later, it looks as if Saban and Alabama are having the last laugh. For a conference that prides itself on being the...

Meyer vs. Saban, Act III

All eyes will be on Tuscaloosa, AL, this Saturday night when #7 Florida takes on #1 Alabama. There will be no shortage of storylines as these two schools’ bitter rivalry has become renewed over the past five seasons. The last time these two teams met was on December 5, 2009, in Atlanta, GA, for the SEC Championship game and a chance to play in the BCS National Championship. Alabama (#2) handily beat Florida (#1), 32-13, in route to their...

Ingram Set To Return Saturday Against Duke

Alabama Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram will make his first appearance of the season this Saturday when Alabama visits the Duke Blue Devils. Ingram sat out of Alabama’s first two games of the season after undergoing knee surgery on August 31st. Ingram has participated in drills and has practiced all week for the Tide, making his return against Duke imminent. While Ingram is the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, back-up RB Trent Richardson has a few in Tuscaloosa murmuring about a RB controversy. In games against...

Breaking News: Mark Ingram injured

Nick Saban’s worst nightmare came true yesterday when Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram went down injuring his left knee during yesterday’s practice. The tailback’s injury was so severe he immediately underwent successful arthroscopic knee surgery performed by Dr. Lyle Cain and Dr. James Andrews (presumably both Crimson Tide fans). The tailback is listed as day-to-day but he will certainly miss Bama’s home opener this Saturday against San Jose State. It is still undecided if Ingram will suit up for the...
