LeBron James practices with former high school football team

With the NBA lockout threating to cancel the entire season, players are finding creative ways to stay busy or perhaps consider career changes. Yesterday, Miami Heat superstar LeBron James returned to his roots and was spotted at his alma mater St. Vincent-St Mary High School practicing with the third ranked Division III varsity football team. James hit the gridiron in full gear sporting the #13 jersey, wearing shoulder pads, helmet, and a visor. His athletic talent was apparent impressing...

Gilbert impresses in spring scrimmage

The Garrett Gilbert era is officially underway in Austin, Texas. The rising sophomore was thrown into the fire as a true freshman during the 2010 BCS National Championship game against Alabama after Texas starting QB Colt McCoy left the game in the first quarter with an injury. Even though Gilbert only went 15-40 for 146 yards with 2 TDs and 4 INTs, his Longhorns were still in the game heading into the last 10 minutes of the 4th quarter. Gilbert impressed...

Mallett breaks foot, will miss spring practice

QB Ryan Mallett’s road to gridiron fame just hit another bump. This time, a broken bone in his left foot is sidelining the gunslinger during spring practice. As a top prospect in 2007, Mallett was supposed to shine for Michigan’s Lloyd Carr and did show signs of greatness while backing up then future NFLer Chad Henne. However, after Carr retired and Rich Rodriguez stepped in and introduced his spread offense to the maize and blue, Mallett quickly left the...

Worthless Texas merchandise goes to Haiti

Regardless of how altruistic you deem George Mitchell to be, he has agreed to donate 14,000 shirts and hats to earthquake ravaged Haiti. Mr. Mitchell is the University Co-op president who, on a gamble, printed shirts and hats bearing the Texas Longhorns as the BCS National Champions. Of course, when Colt McCoy went down, so did Mitchell’s profits and dreams. In an effort to salvage his loss, he got in touch with Kids In Distressed Situations, Inc. to coordinate...

McCoy pops the question

Not all is lost for Colt McCoy in 2010. Though he started the year off injuring his right throwing shoulder in the Longhorns’ 37-21 loss to Alabama in the NCG, he just scored huge at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. On Monday night, McCoy brought his girlfriend to Texas’ holy land when the jumbo-tron read “Will You Marry Me?” Upon looking back at Colt, he got on his knees and proposed to longtime (since last year) girlfriend Rachel Glandorf. Without...

Gilbert who?

Garrett Gilbert almost became a household name as he nearly pulled off a Texas rally in the Citi BCS National Championship game last night. When All-American QB Colt McCoy went down in the first series of the game over 90,000 fans saw Mack Brown call #3’s number. As the true freshman trotted onto the field, the Crimson Tide fanbase could smell Gilbert’s fear and taste victory. Gilbert’s first half performance was expectantly poor. His nerves and lack of experience reflected as...

The Longhorns will Roll over the Tide

The BCS National Championship Game airs tonight with a match-up of #1 Alabama v. #2 Texas. The experts are all saying that Alabama should win this game (some say by 10 though the line is hovering around 4). As it stands, the SEC is 5- 0 in the BCS National Championship Game with most saying the Tide will safely make it to 6-0. However, in the words of Lee Corso, NOT SO FAST, MY FRIEND! The Longhorns are averaging over 40...
