Things were hotter than usual in Columbia, SC this weekend which resulted in the suspension of SC defensive end Clifton Geathers. Gathers was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and public drunkeness. It’s unclear how much time Geathers will miss but SC will need to have him back on the field soon if they hope to compete in the SEC. Gamecock coach Steve Spurrier had this to say about the matter, “We are disappointed in the actions of Clifton Geathers the other night,” said Spurrier in a statement released by the school. “He has been suspended indefinitely from the team until all the facts come in.”
Gathers, 6’8, 281 lbs, played in all 13 games at DE for the ‘Cocks last year and he earned the Most Improved Defensive End Award at the end of South Carolina’s spring practice. He will be missed by the team.
