Spygate: UConn Edition

If you are wondering why UConn went from preseason Big East contender to the bottom of the basement, think no more. The program recently learned that there is a spy amongst the student body. A displeased Randy Edsall announced that somebody has been spying on the Huskies’s practice. Apparently, some proprietary information from the football team’s recent practice was revealed and made public. There was a depiction of each and every move players made from the dorm room to...

Casey to Oregon: “they’re really not that good”

If you thought SC wasn’t arrogant enough, the Trojans defensive tackle Jurrell Casey just disproved any doubts by taking a stab at top-ranked Oregon. During an interview with ESPNLosAngeles.com, Casey fueled the heated rivalry by saying “they have a good running back and a good quarterback. Other than that, they’re really not that good.” Maybe Casey doesn’t recall, but last season Oregon humiliated SC 47-20 at Autzen Stadium. This season, Oregon is even better on both sides of the ball....

Penn State wigs out for Robinson and the Wolverines

Halloween is being celebrated a little earlier in State College, Pennsylvania. As Penn State is gearing up for the Michigan Wolverines, the coaching staff provided scout-team QB/WR Evan Lewis with some fake long dreads to help further mimic and simulate Michigan QB Denard Robinson. Some PSU players got a chuckle out of Lewis’s new hair-do, but after watching some videotape and Lewis in action, the defense is not laughing one bit at Robinson’s shiftiness and blazing speed. Robinson leads...

The Hogs’ DD Jones arrested, charged with marijuana possession

Fayetteville faithful may be without defensive tackle DeQuinta “D.D.” Jones this Saturday as Arkansas hosts Vanderbilt in a conference showdown with significant bowl implications for the Razorbacks. Jones was arrested earlier today and charged with marijuana possession. Fayetteville police pulled over Jones at 12:37 a.m. for failing to have vehicle license lights. During routine questioning, the officer smelled the distinct odor of marijuana coming from Jones’ vehicle. After being asked to exit his GMC Suburban, Jones consented to a...

Agnew’s Agony

If you can’t beat ‘em, sue ‘em. At least that is the approach taken by a former Rice University football player. On Monday, The Owls’ Joseph Agnew sued the NCAA over its policy of limiting athletic scholarships to one-year renewable rewards. The background is quite simple. Agnew, who filed a class-action in California, believes the NCAA and its member schools are violating antitrust laws by limiting the number of scholarships each team can provide. As stated in his complaint,...

Three’s a charm for UCLA’s Marvray and Sheller

Life is not getting any easier for the UCLA Bruins. After an embarrassing defeat against Oregon last Thursday, the school just announced two offensive players have been suspended for one game. Wide receiver Ricky Marvray and offensive tackle Sean Sheller will both miss Saturday’s game against Arizona for violating team rules. The suspension comes down as the two Bruins tested positive in their latest drug screen test. What’s even more disturbing is this is their third failed drug test...

QB Hansen injured, Hawkins takes reins

It’s not like Colorado is threatening to win the Big 12 or get a BCS bowl invite anytime soon, but Buff fans should be concerned that their prized QB, Tyler Hansen, will miss the rest of the regular season because of a ruptured spleen. The junior was injured in the second quarter of the Texas Tech game in which they actually kept it close in a 27-24 losing effort. During the second quarter, Hansen was hit hard on an option...
