If you thought SC wasn’t arrogant enough, the Trojans defensive tackle Jurrell Casey just disproved any doubts by taking a stab at top-ranked Oregon. During an interview with ESPNLosAngeles.com, Casey fueled the heated rivalry by saying “they have a good running back and a good quarterback. Other than that, they’re really not that good.” Maybe Casey doesn’t recall, but last season Oregon humiliated SC 47-20 at Autzen Stadium. This season, Oregon is even better on both sides of the ball. But Casey didn’t want to hear any of it, “it gets kind of annoying to keep hearing about it, but let them do the talking and we’ll just go out there and show that we can stop them.”
Casey’s words were very confident coming from a struggling defensive unit that hasn’t beaten a top 25 team this season, gives up over 24 points per game, and is a mediocre 2-2 in conference play. Meanwhile, Oregon leads the nation in total offense and scores a whopping 55.1 points per game.
Perhaps Casey’s rhetoric was to pump up his team, but expect to see Oregon’s offense feast on Casey and a very porous SC squad.
