QB Hansen injured, Hawkins takes reins

QB Tyler Hansen (#9) ruptured his spleen in Saturday's loss to Texas Tech.

It’s not like Colorado is threatening to win the Big 12 or get a BCS bowl invite anytime soon, but Buff fans should be concerned that their prized QB, Tyler Hansen, will miss the rest of the regular season because of a ruptured spleen. The junior was injured in the second quarter of the Texas Tech game in which they actually kept it close in a 27-24 losing effort. During the second quarter, Hansen was hit hard on an option play. At first, the team doctor thought he sustained bruised ribs but after further diagnosis, it was determined to be a ruptured spleen.

The Hawkins family name has become infamous in Colorado and it seems the name will never escape the Buff’s landscape. Now that Hansen is done for the season, former starter Cody Hawkins returns to lead the Buffaloes straight to the bottomless abyss. Though the Buffaloes are only 3 games away from becoming bowl-eligible, with Hawkins under center, it is an absolute certainty there will be no post-season play for Colorado. As it stands, Colorado is 3-4, but more importantly, 0-3 in conference play. Both Hawkins (father and son) have been a black-eye for a once proud program. Until Cody Hawkins graduates and Dan Hawkins is fired, Colorado will continue to sink below mediocrity.
