Fayetteville faithful may be without defensive tackle DeQuinta “D.D.” Jones this Saturday as Arkansas hosts Vanderbilt in a conference showdown with significant bowl implications for the Razorbacks. Jones was arrested earlier today and charged with marijuana possession. Fayetteville police pulled over Jones at 12:37 a.m. for failing to have vehicle license lights. During routine questioning, the officer smelled the distinct odor of marijuana coming from Jones’ vehicle. After being asked to exit his GMC Suburban, Jones consented to a pat down search with the officer finding 8.7 grams of marijuana in his right front pocket. Jones was charged and booked at Washington County Detention Center for misdemeanor possession which carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail.
The 19 year-old sophomore DT has played in all seven games this season for the No. 19 Razorbacks and is ninth on the team in tackles amassing 22 tackles in his young, and perhaps, short-lived Razorbacks career. Coach Bobby Petrino had a lot of hope for the talented tackle who was making a significant impact on the defensive rotation. Petrino is obviously very disappointed in the arrest and will address Jones’ status with the team in the coming days.
“It’s something we certainly don’t want to see happen, particularly in the week of the game. I’ve not had a chance to visit with him or a chance to gather any more information, but it will certainly be addressed.”
The Louisiana native is set to appear before a Washington County judge on November 22, 2010.
