Pizza, Pizza Bowl

Not sure if anyone outside of Detroit cares, but the city’s famed Motor City Bowl is getting a name change presumably because of its lack of popularity and the general economic decline in Detroit. George Perles, the co-founder and CEO of the Motor City Bowl, told WWJ Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick Monday the title of the game will be changed because of the troubles in the auto industry.  So when asked who would be the title sponsor, in...

White-out comes to Doak Campbell Stadium

It appears Bowden and the Florida State Seminoles are taking one of Penn State’s home game rituals–the white-out.  The school will introduce their all white uniforms for a home game against the University of South Florida on September 26th. The school is asking all students and fans to wear white to the game. Since white isn’t the school color, the bookstore is conveniently selling the official white-out t-shirts. The proceeds are said to support the athletic department. It appears this...

Greg Paulus has one year to shine

Doug Marrone was bombarded with questions regarding QB Greg Paulus during the Big East Conference media day in Newport, R.I. this past Tuesday. Since Marrone hasn’t had the opportunity to see Paulus in action, he didn’t have much to say. Syracuse’s official preseason camp doesn’t begin until August 10th. Since no one knows how he will perform, this video should give you good guidance as to his potential. Paulus has the ability, at least he did in high school, and...

2009 Doak Walker Award Watch List

The Doak Walker Award watch list was just released this afternoon. It is even more absurd than the O’Brien award as 45 running backs are featured on this list. Again, there seems to be a lack of prestige and/or seriousness to be on the watch list when pretty much any back with two feet gets named. The Doak is named after SMU and Detroit Lions football player Doak Walker. It was first awarded in 1990 to Washington’s Greg Lewis....

Vote for Holtz!

The Orlando Sentinal is reporting that the ole ball coach, Lou Holtz, is exploring a bid for congress in central Florida. Holtz would presumably run as a republican to challenge first-term U.S. Representative Suzanne Kosmas (D). Now I’m no Karl Rove, but this is actually something Holtz could win if strategically done properly. He is generally loved by college football fans, he has a brand name, he has been living in Florida, and most senior Republicans would support him. I recognize...

WR Brandon McRae recovering from broken leg

Mississippi State’s WR Brandon McRae’s (Sr. 6’4, 205 lbs.) 2008 season ended abruptly in the second quarter as he had to be carted off the field in the Egg Bowl against Ole Miss with a broken leg. The Bulldogs were crushed 0-45. He suffered a compound fracture of the tibia and had to have his leg immobilized.  McRae missed all of spring practice recovering from the injury. McRae says he is ready to go and is listed as a starter on the team’s depth chart. Last season,...
