Not sure if anyone outside of Detroit cares, but the city’s famed Motor City Bowl is getting a name change presumably because of its lack of popularity and the general economic decline in Detroit. George Perles, the co-founder and CEO of the Motor City Bowl, told WWJ Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick Monday the title of the game will be changed because of the troubles in the auto industry.

So when asked who would be the title sponsor, in a chuckle, Perles stated,  “We’re gonna be probably known as the Little Caesar’s Pizza, Pizza Bowl.” An official announcement is forthcoming as the Little Caeser’s board is voting on the motion to sponsor the game.

The bowl game generally features a MAC team (usually the MAC champ) versus a bowl-eligible Big Ten team.  Last season there were none available so Florida Atlantic (from the Sun Belt) faced off in a thriller against Central Michigan winning 24-21.  Approximately 41,000 were in attendance in the 65,000 seat stadium.

The Pizza, Pizza Bowl is scheduled for December 26th at 1:00 pm.
