Vandy down two starters

Vandy played their hearts out in a 23-9 loss to LSU this past Saturday. Unfortunately, they got more than an “L.” It looks like starting safety Ryan Hamilton is out for the remainder of the season with a torn pectoral muscle. The Commodores also lost starting right tackle James Williams with a dislocated left ankle. Both starters plan to have surgery this week. The Commodores play host to Mississippi State this Saturday night. Both teams sport a 1-1 record.

Jarvis Sidelined

According to Kentnewsnet.com, SR RB Eugene Jarvis suffered a severe kidney injury against Boston College this past Saturday. As a result, he will miss the remainder of the season.  Jarvis is one of the top backs coming out of Kent State who amassed 3,426 career rushing yards. He will certainly be missed by the team.  On the injury, “We’ve got a development with Eugene Jarvis and (he’s) going to be out for the season,” Kent State coach Doug Martin...

DB Carroll is finished for the season

The ACC almost took another loss at the hands of a D 1-AA team. Somehow, Maryland was able to squeak by James Madison University in OT 38-35. The win, which is nothing to praise about, proved to be a little more costly than anticipated.  The Washington Post is reporting that Maryland’s senior DB Nolan Carroll broke his tibia midway through the 4th quarter. Carroll was carted off the field and will more than likely be out for the rest of...

Someone stole Dez’s mouth guard

Not only was Oklahoma State’s undefeated season taken away on Saturday, but so were items from the Cowboys’ locker room. As the facts are coming in, The Matador learned that apparently three, let’s hope drunk, college football fans entered the team’s locker room unnoticed. During their five-finger discount shopping spree, the perpetrators stole, among other things, Anthony Morgan‘s helmet, Zac Robinson‘s wrist band and mouth guard, and the mouth guard and gloves of Dez Bryant.

Taglianetti tears ACL

The University of Pittsburgh announced that sophomore safety Andrew Taglianetti tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the Panthers victory over Buffalo 54-27. Since the injury occurred early in the season, Taglianetti can move for a medical redshirt giving him another year of eligibility. As it stands, Taglianetti will undergo surgery this year and junior Elijah Fields will take over as starting safety. Dave Wannstedt stated, “He is an important performer on and off the field for us....

Rogan breaks a Prince’s Jaw

UCLA had an impressive 19-15 win over Tennessee this past Saturday. However, the win may prove to be costly as UCLA’s star freshman QB Kevin Prince suffered a broken jaw when the Vols’ Dennis Rogan sacked him for a safety with 1:41 to play. Prince will have his jaw wired shut and he should be out 3-4 weeks. Prince is having a promising start leading the Bruins to a 2-0 record with victories over San Diego State and Tennessee....

The fans cheer, Groh Must Go!

There is a rumor swirling around Charlottesville that coach Al Groh may be packing his bags sooner than expected. After last weeks crushing blow courtesy of William & Mary (26-14), UVA was hoping for a good show against visiting TCU. Unfortunately, Groh’s offense couldn’t muster any points until late in the 4th quarter when the game was already decided. The Cavs’ defense showed some signs of hope, but in the end, TCU was just too powerful and left UVA...

The Matador’s Muse

The Matador’s Muse

What did we learn in Week 2. First, I’m a big fan of nepotism, but there is a point when a coach has to pull his son out of the game. It is clear that Cody Hawkins is not a good QB and the Toledo defense exposed his lack of talent all night long. Even when down several scores in the 4th quarter, his dad kept him in the game. As a result, he may have suffered a concussion...
