Sports agent Gary Wichard suspended

Veteran sports agent Gary Wichard will have a good part of the year off as the NFL Players Association suspended the longtime sports agent for 9 months for his improper contact with UNC coaches and players. Wichard, a licensed sports agent since 1980, was under scrutiny for his involvement with former Tar Heel defensive tackle Marvin Austin who was dismissed from the team earlier this season. Information began surfacing when improper benefits were received by UNC players, specifically Austin....

UNC’s Moral Victory

Before No.18 North Carolina boarded the team plane for Atlanta to play No. 21 LSU, critics nationwide had written the Tar Heels off. Pundits from San Diego to South Beach declared that UNC didn’t stand a chance given the 13 suspensions handed down late last week amidst accusations of cheating and an illegal agent benefit scandal. The Tar Heels headed into Saturday night’s Kick-Off Classic missing the heart and soul of their football team. Starting defensive tackle Marvin Austin,...

Austin to be suspended his entire senior year?

Rumors are swirling that UNC’s star defensive tackle Marvin Austin will be suspended his entire senior year due to NCAA violations to include receiving and accepting extra benefits from a sports agent. Tulane Gets Green Wave of Cash

It looks like LSU and Tulane are going to severe ties for a measly $700,000.00 as reported by the Times-Picayune. In an attempt to beef up its schedule, LSU is paying Tulane $700,000.00 to forgo the final 6 games of a 10 game home-and-home series. Originally, LSU wanted to play all the remaining games at Tiger Stadium, but Tulane wouldn’t agree to those terms. So instead of flexing its muscles on the field, LSU flexed its financial muscles off...

The ACC Embarrassment

The Matador received heavy criticism for his early preseason bashing of the ACC.  If we learned anything from week 1, The Matador wasn’t too far off the mark. The two inexcusable beatings landed at the hands of Duke losing to Richmond 16-24 and lowly UVA being ousted by in-state rival William & Mary 14-26. Another game that set the conference back was Cal thumping Maryland 52-13. The ACC did have some close games that came down to 4th quarter...

Rumble In The Dorms

There was some hitting on and off the field at UNC last month. Donte Paige-Moss, UNC’s highly touted recruit, was arrested last month for punching fellow teammate Hunter Furr during a dorm room altercation. Paige-Moss was charged with simple misdemeanor assault.  Furr was treated at a Chapel Hill hospital the next day for injuries sustained during the fracas. Tar Heel coach Butch Davis has been pretty secretive about how he plans on handling the situation by saying, “We’ve talked about...
