Greg Elleby will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a knee injury

Life is not getting any easier for Coach Butch Davis and the Chapel Hill faithful, with NCAA infractions looming, player suspensions, and a 2-2 record, the university is reporting that defensive tackle Greg Elleby will miss the remainder of the season due to injury. Elleby tore his ACL and MCL in his left knee this past weekend during UNC’s 42-17 win over ECU. The Tabor City, NC native is expected to go under the knife this week with the hopes of making a full recovery.

The 5th year senior will sorely be missed by the coaching staff as Elleby was a strong, versatile player who was quickly able to adapt to multiple positions on both sides of the ball. Whatever a coach asked of him, Elleby would do. UNC currently ranks 55th in the nation for points against and will need a strong defensive showing as it’s conference time. With the ACC race wide open, every win counts.

UNC faces Clemson this Saturday on ESPN at 3:30pm ET.
