WR Aaron Weaver (#87) is out for the season with a torn ACL

Syracuse (1-1) football seems to be stuck in a never ending tailspin. The latest bad news for the Orange is wide receiver Aaron Weaver will miss the rest of the season due to a torn ACL. The senior wide out injured his right knee during Tuesday’s practice in a non-contact drill.

Weaver was a transfer from Hofstra University (Hofstra dropped football in 2009) who quickly rose to the top of the depth chart with his solid hands. Coach Doug Marrone was impressed with Weaver’s transition to ‘Cuse football and he hoped to use him in a more significant role as the season progressed.  In his first two games, Weaver amassed a respectable 6 receptions for 88 yards and 1 TD. This is certainly a loss for a Syracuse program that is struggling to return to relevance.

The Orange head into Saturday’s home opener against Maine with concerns as to who will replace Weaver as the #3 receiver. As it stands, WRs Marcus Sailes, Dorian Graham, and Cody Morgan are all battling for the job. The question remains, who will rise to the occasion?
