Syracuse's Mike Jones (#37) is out for the season with a torn left hip flexor

If it weren’t for bad luck, Syracuse would have none. Doug Marrone not only saw 21 players leave the program in his first season as head coach, but so far he has lost seven players to season ending injuries. It looks like that number is going to grow by two.

Today, Marrone announced that sophomore kick returner Mike Jones and senior snapper/TE Dalton Phillips are both done for the season as a result of injuries sustained during the Louisville game.  Jones tore his left hip flexor and Phillips suffered a severe concussion and is still tackling post concussive syndrome.

Jones will severely be missed on special teams as he boasts a 24.1 kick-off return average. He is number 2 in the Orange’s record book for amassing 987 kick return yards and 41 returns in one season.

At this point, let’s hope Marrone’s players can stay healthy and finish strong in his inaugural season. Hopefully, it will get better for ‘Cuse come next year.
