Ball’s Assailants Enter Guilty Plea, Avoid Jail

As senior running back Montee Ball and his Wisconsin teammates gear-up for the Rose Bowl, his alleged attackers are prepping for Wisconsin’s First Offender Program to avoid criminal conviction.  On Wednesday, Wendell Venerable, 21, and Robert Wilks, 22, pleaded guilty to substantial battery for attacking running back Montee Ball this past summer.  The charge is a felony that carries a maximum penalty of 18-months in prison.  Both men took the guilty plea, and the judge kept them out of...

TCU declines rematch against Wisconsin

After a thrilling Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin, TCU wanted no part of a possible rematch come 2011. This week, Wisconsin’s Bret Bielema stated in a radio show interview on The Big 1070 that shortly after the Rose Bowl he was approached by a third party about playing TCU in their season opener. Bielema could not say “yes” fast enough. However, TCU head coach Gary Patterson did not seem as excited and turned down the invitation. Despite TCU needing to fill...

Brewster gets the pink slip

When head coach Tim Brewster arrived at Minnesota back in 2007 to replace Glen Mason, Gopher fans had high expectations and even set their eyes on the Rose Bowl. However, Brewster’s brief tenure at Minnesota was far from rosy. In 4 seasons, Brewster went a disappointing 15-30 with a paltry 6-21 record in Big Ten play. Last Saturday, the Gophers lost 28-17 to Purdue marking the sixth straight defeat for Brewster and company. Minnesota had enough and cut bait by...

Darron Thomas is the new Duck in town

In the post-Masoli era, it looks like Eugene found its new triggerman much to the satisfaction of the Oregon faithful. Yesterday, QB Darron Thomas was named the starting quarterback for the Oregon Ducks. Thomas was in a heated QB battle with fifth year senior Nate Costa that lasted all preseason. Fans were getting antsy as to who would be their starter when the season kicks off September 4th against the Lobos. Coach Chip Kelly opted for the red-shirt sophomore...

A Rose (Bowl) by any other name

The Granddaddy of Them All is desperately seeking a new sugar mama. Citi, the embattled banking giant, decided it’s time to sever its ties as the presenting sponsor of the Rose Bowl. The landscape of this relationship was doomed when ESPN took control over all sales of marketing and advertising of the New Year’s Day event. Citi had enough of ESPN’s total broadcasting rights and decided to throw in the towel. Meanwhile, the Rose Bowl is going back to the well...

OU didn’t steal my signs

The mighty Ducks personnel cannot just accept the fact that Ohio State totally dominated the Ducks in the Rose Bowl. The Ducks’ offensive coordinator, Mark Helfrich, is suggesting that some of the team’s signals were compromised during “The Granddaddy of Them All.” Rather than taking the 26-17 defeat like a man, in true American fashion, Helfrich is blaming someone else for his offense’s poor performance (Masoli only completed 9 out of 20 passes for 81 yards, 0 TDs and 1 INT)....

Who’s that man on the horse?

If you’ve been wondering who that dashing young man is riding around on a horse promoting Old Spice, then you’ve come to the right place. The identity is none other than former ASU WR  Isaiah Mustafa. Mustafa may have not been a stellar wideout, but he did make it to the sidelines during the 1997 Rose Bowl lose to Ohio State, 20-17. Unfortunately, his football career never took off. He tried out for various teams to include the Tennessee Oilers...
