Every Rose Bowl has its thorn

The 96th Rose Bowl is getting a little more interesting as both Oregon and Ohio State are dealing with shrinking rosters. The Oregon Ducks have just announced that back-up WR Jamere Holland is academically ineligible for post season play. During the season, he amassed 13 catches for 199 yards and 2 TDs. The Eugene Register-Guard reported that this is nothing new for Holland and the Ducks as he has been dealing with academic issues all throughout his collegiate career....

2010 Rose Bowl

The 2010 Rose Bowl (Oregon vs. Ohio State) has Mr. Miles excited for all sorts of reasons. First and foremost, I would like to see nothing more than Oregon QB Jeremiah Masoli get his bell rung one good time by the Buckeye‘s defense. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy watching Oregon and I’ve been impressed with the job that first year coach Chip Kelly has done. But if I have to watch Masoli jump around one more time after...

A slap in the face for TCU and Boise State

As the bowl line-up was recently announced, two teams received a back handed compliment. #6 Boise State and #3 TCU both landed BCS bids, but much to their dismay, they did not get the marquee match-up as they hoped. Unfortunately, they will be playing each other in this year’s Fiesta Bowl. When TCU and Boise State both received bids, the school’s erupted with enthusiasm. But seconds later, the crowds suddenly became disenchanted when it was announced that the Horned...

Oregon Comes Up Roses!

Oregon is headed to Pasadena for a January 1st Rose Bowl date with Ohio State. Oregon hasn’t played in the Rose Bowl since 1995. Thursday night’s edition of the Civil War had high stakes with the winner claiming the Pac-10 crown and an all expense paid trip to sunny California for the holidays. The game lived up to all its hype as Oregon won 37-33 after converting on two crucial fourth down attempts on its final drive. Oregon State played...

Another violent Duck

The Pac 10 Civil War showdown is set for this Thursday between Oregon and Oregon State. The winner gets the big prize: an automatic birth to the Rose Bowl to face Ohio State. The excitement of a Rose Bowl invitation may be too much to handle for the players just ask Terrance Montgomery. Unfortunately, Montgomery lost his self control as he was arrested on Monday by Springfield police and jailed on assault charges for choking an unnamed female at...

Give me an S-M-A-C-K!

For those of you who were sitting in the southwest end of Arizona Stadium on Saturday, you probably got a good shot of some idiot Arizona fan who tagged Oregon cheerleader Katelynn Johnson in the head with a bottle causing her to collapse. As a result, she suffered a concussion and was transported to a nearby hospital. After the game, Arizona coach Mike Stoops contacted Oregon’s AD to express his concerns over Johnson and called the incident “disturbing.” One...

Blount is back

This may come to you as a shock, but the Pac-10 commissioner, Larry Scott, has just approved the request to reinstate Oregon’s LeGarrette Blount. After an immediate suspension following the Boise State punch heard around the (college football) world, Scott believes Blount has paid dearly for his actions and is now cleared to play to salvage any hopes of entering the NFL. I am “convinced LeGarrette Blount paid a significant and appropriate price for the mistakes he made on the...

Lock of the week

Every time The Matador takes a step forward, it is inevitable he ultimately takes a step back. So to get back on the right foot (the lock of the week is 4-4 for the season) take Oregon over Stanford. The line should be -5.5.  Oregon is the real deal. After a terrible start against Boise State and a close game against Purdue, the Ducks have been beating down on their opponents while their defense stands strong. In the last five games,...
