Oregon Comes Up Roses!

Oregon is headed to Pasadena for a January 1st Rose Bowl date with Ohio State. Oregon hasn’t played in the Rose Bowl since 1995. Thursday night’s edition of the Civil War had high stakes with the winner claiming the Pac-10 crown and an all expense paid trip to sunny California for the holidays. The game lived up to all its hype as Oregon won 37-33 after converting on two crucial fourth down attempts on its final drive. Oregon State played...

Another violent Duck

The Pac 10 Civil War showdown is set for this Thursday between Oregon and Oregon State. The winner gets the big prize: an automatic birth to the Rose Bowl to face Ohio State. The excitement of a Rose Bowl invitation may be too much to handle for the players just ask Terrance Montgomery. Unfortunately, Montgomery lost his self control as he was arrested on Monday by Springfield police and jailed on assault charges for choking an unnamed female at...

Will it be Iowa or Penn State?

The Big 10 regular season has just about come to an end but it certainly left an interesting dilemma for the BCS bowl committee. Basically, the Big 10 has three eligible teams for two BCS bids. Ohio State clinched the first bid with its automatic BCS Rose Bowl birth by winning the Big 10. This leaves Iowa and Penn State as the two remaining teams for one precious at-large birth. Iowa is currently ranked 11th and Penn State is ranked 13th after both completing their regular season...

Penn State will cruise to victory

This has been a rough season for The Matador going 5-5 on his weekly picks. It’s going to change as we inch closer to the regular season’s end. The lock of the week is Penn State (-3) over Michigan State. Penn State has all the drive in the world to win this game big. The Nittany Lions undeservedly have the opportunity to get a BCS at-large bid with a victory. Since Ohio State locked up the Rose Bowl, two...

JoePa says no need for a special teams coach

For those of you who witnessed Ohio State’s trouncing of the Nittany Lions this past Saturday 24-7, there was one obvious factor that plagued Penn State–FIELD POSITION. Penn State found itself on their side of the 50 for almost every offensive series. This poor field position can be blamed on one thing, special teams. Penn State’s special teams is sub-part at best. Among 120 D-1 football teams, PSU is a paltry 115th in net punting (31.7) yards. This horrible punting...

Stanzi, undefeated season lost

The Cinderella season for the Iowa Hawkeyes came to a tearful end when QB Ricky Stanzi went down in the 2nd quarter during the Northwestern game. When Stanzi was down in his own endzone you could hear a pin drop as the 70,585 fans were in shock that their leader had fallen. Stanzi was helped up and hobbled to the sideline and then to the locker room. The good news, if any, is that Stanzi’s x-rays were negative. The...

Pryor will hear it from the fans

This Saturday marks the 300th game being played in Beaver Stadium. For all of my fans who will be joining me this weekend in Happy Valley for the Penn State v. Ohio State match-up, don’t forget to purchase your Terrelle Cryer T-Shirt. The t-shirt pays tribute to Pryor’s last season’s fourth-quarter fumble that ultimately led to PSU’s game winning TD drive. PSU won the game 13-6. After Pryor’s last second hailmary interception, he sat on the bench and wept over the Big Ten title...

To be Blount, Oregon doesn’t need him

Chip Kelly is still mum on the reinstatement of Oregon’s LeGarrette Blount. As you recall, Blount in an act of stupidity and cowardliness, was suspended on opening night after sucker punching Boise State’s DE Byron Hout. Initially, Blount received a season long suspensions, but now that Oregon is starting to gel and is inching its way towards a BCS birth, Kelly is rethinking the severity of the suspension. The reality of the situation is quite simple, if Oregon was...
