The Cinderella season for the Iowa Hawkeyes came to a tearful end when QB Ricky Stanzi went down in the 2nd quarter during the Northwestern game. When Stanzi was down in his own endzone you could hear a pin drop as the 70,585 fans were in shock that their leader had fallen.

Stanzi was helped up and hobbled to the sideline and then to the locker room. The good news, if any, is that Stanzi’s x-rays were negative. The bad news, he suffered a severe ankle sprain which will keep him off of the field for the coming weeks.

Iowa had no magic left without Stanzi as Northwestern upset the Hawkeyes 17-10 and severely hurt Iowa’s chances of representing the Big 10 in the Rose Bowl. As the picture is painted now, all fingers are pointing to Ohio State to earn the Rose Bowl bid.
