Nebraska Sued, Discriminates Against Disabled Parker

Richard Norton Jr. was denied access to a handicapped parking space during a Cornhuskers football game to make way for Nebraska donors and tailgaters.  As a result of this discriminatory practice, Norton sued the school seeking an injunction to prevent the school from continuing to enforce a policy that discriminates against disabled persons.   On October 30, 2010, Norton tried to park in a dedicated handicapped spot at Morrill Hall to see an art exhibit.  He was turned...

A true sign of class from Penn State and Nebraska

After an emotionally charged week, there were skeptics that believed Penn State should cancel today’s game and perhaps cancel the remainder of the season citing among other things, safety. However, interim president Rod Erickson was going to have no part of that. The university did take precautions by adding extra security, but at the end of the day, Penn State and Nebraska are both teams rich in tradition and pride that wanted to play the game. Prior to kick-off,...

Tom Bradley takes the reins at Penn State

With Joe Paterno’s abrupt firing, the board of trustees appointed defensive coordinator Tom Bradley as interim head coach for the Nittany Lions effective immediately. Bradley’s routes are embedded in Pennsylvania as he was both a graduate of Penn State and played defensive back for Paterno in the late 1970’s. Ever since he graduated, he remained by Paterno’s side. He was a graduate assistant (1979), then promoted to assistant (1980-1999), then in 2000 was named the defensive coordinator to replace...

10 protest against Penn State, 1,500 students rally in support

David Baran, a Penn State graduate, is so disgusted with his alma mater that he staged a rally on Tuesday on the steps of Old Main to protest the Jerry Sandusky scandal and to showcase his distaste about the way Penn State handled the sex abuse charges. Baran pulled out his diploma, then a lighter, and set his degree ablaze for everyone to see. The one problem, only 10 supporters showed up to his protest. Meanwhile, over 1,500 students...

Hawkeyes and Cornhuskers introduce “The Heroes Game”

The B1G continues to disappoint when it comes to marketing and gimmicks.  This time the thanks goes to Iowa and Nebraska, who decided to dub their newly created rivalry game “The Heroes Game.” The notion behind this game is to honor one hero from each respective state prior to the annual match-up.  Friends, neighbors, co-workers, or pretty much anyone who has a voice will nominate each hero from each state.  Aside from pre-game and on-filed recognition, the school will...

A Textbook Violation for Nebraska

What happens when a school attempts to aid student-athletes by providing some additional textbooks and school supplies–a self-imposed two-year probation. Nebraska announced yesterday that it inadvertently distributed to student-athletes nearly $28,000 worth of textbooks and other school supplies from 2007-10. According to NCAA rules, a school is allowed to cover course textbooks, but nothing else. This means when the school provided professor recommended books, secondary sources, and various school supplies, it violated NCAA rules. After an internal investigation, Nebraska’s...

Sam Keller v. EA Sports, et al.: Round II

On Tuesday, February 15, 2011, all eyes will be on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals as Sam Keller’s team of lawyers will defend the district court’s ruling that EA Sports and the NCAA owe Keller and former college football player royalties for portraying their image and likeness in the popular EA Sports NCAA Football game franchise. EA Sports releases its college football game annually and uses the success of college athletes to create a more realistic game. These...

Wanted: Die-hard Nebraska Fans

In another indication that the NCAA over indulges in bowl revenue capacity, the Nebraska Cornhuskers can’t give away Holiday Bowl tickets. As a Holiday Bowl participant, Nebraska is required to sell or purchase 11,000 tickets per their allotment agreement. As of today, only 7,500 have been sold. This means Nebraska is on the hook for $210,000.00. Well it doesn’t take one with a business and marketing degree to see why Nebraska can’t sell their share of tickets. Here is...
