After an emotionally charged week, there were skeptics that believed Penn State should cancel today’s game and perhaps cancel the remainder of the season citing among other things, safety. However, interim president Rod Erickson was going to have no part of that. The university did take precautions by adding extra security, but at the end of the day, Penn State and Nebraska are both teams rich in tradition and pride that wanted to play the game.
Prior to kick-off, both teams met at midfield, took a knee, and gathered for a moment of silence for the alleged victims. In an act of class, former Penn State players gathered along which only added more emotion to an already emotional crowd. It was surreal, fans were filled with game-day emotions and tears and as the players broke the huddle, 107,000 fans collectively cheered both teams in what proved to be the epitome of sportsmanship during the worst week in Penn State history.
