Stick with Lee, Les

Disgraced LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson wants his starting job back from Jarrett Lee, his replacement. Jefferson, a senior, was reinstated to the football program last week after suspension for his involvement in a mid-August fight. He had originally been charged with felony second-degree battery, but a Louisiana grand jury reduced his charge to simple battery, a misdemeanor, thus clearing the way for his return. Jefferson has been LSU’s starting signal-caller since November 2008, his true freshman season in Baton Rouge....

Kentucky QB Hartline arrested

Where there is good news, bad news is sure to follow. Kentucky’s first year head coach Joker Phillips limped into post-season play despite a horrific 2-6 conference record. With Kentucky facing Pittsburgh in the BBVA Compass Bowl next month, Phillips may have to game plan without his starting quarterback. Apparently, QB Mike Hartline took the typical “let’s get drunk and fight attitude” to a local Lexington bar. In the wee hours of Friday morning, Hartline got into a verbal...

I didn’t hear no bell! Wannstedt gets one more round

Despite being forced to resign this past Tuesday, I mean fired, former Pittsburgh coach Dave Wannstedt will not go away without a fight. According to defensive coordinator coach Phil Bennett, Wannstedt agreed to be the acting coach when Pitt faces Kentucky in the BBVA Compass Bowl next month in Birmingham, Alabama. Tweetle me this

With social media becoming an everyday lifestyle for today’s generation, players are learning the hard way that there is no more transparency in what you say, or in this case, Tweet to the world. The latest victim receiving backlash is Kentucky’s WR Randall Cobb. Cobb apparently lashed out at the Kentucky faithful for coming to the South Carolina game late, leaving early, and being more concerned about the basketball team than the football team. Cobb tweeted to the virtual...

Meyer vs. Saban, Act III

All eyes will be on Tuscaloosa, AL, this Saturday night when #7 Florida takes on #1 Alabama. There will be no shortage of storylines as these two schools’ bitter rivalry has become renewed over the past five seasons. The last time these two teams met was on December 5, 2009, in Atlanta, GA, for the SEC Championship game and a chance to play in the BCS National Championship. Alabama (#2) handily beat Florida (#1), 32-13, in route to their...

The Riverboat Gambler’s Final Hand

Three years removed from winning his first and only BCS National Championship, LSU skipper Les Miles could be entering his last season as head coach of the Tigers. Miles assumed head coaching duties on January 3, 2005, when current Alabama head coach Nick Saban bolted Baton Rouge to try his hand in the NFL. Miles got off to a red-hot start by going 11-2 in his first season as head coach and earned a trip to Atlanta to represent...

Rumph around the edges

Donte Rumph had a burning desire to play for the University of Kentucky from day one. The 6’3 265 pound All-State tackle from South Carolina first signed with Kentucky in 2008. Unfortunately, he failed to qualify academically. To improve his grades and hone his football skills, Rumph enrolled in the Christian military boarding school, Fork Union Military Academy (FUMA) in Virginia. Come 2009, Rumph reapplied to Kentucky only to find out that his grades fell short once again. Though his spirits were down,...

Clemson’s Parker gets drafted by the Colorado Rockies

Clemson quarterback Kyle Parker was taken with the 26th pick in the first round of this year’s MLB draft earlier this evening. Parker was drafted by the Colorado Rockies and became the school’s 10th first round draft pick. While this is a great accomplishment by Parker, the redshirt sophomore will have to make a decision to either return to Clemson and play football in the fall, or leave school for a career with the Colorado Rockies. Clemson thrived last...
