Where there is good news, bad news is sure to follow. Kentucky’s first year head coach Joker Phillips limped into post-season play despite a horrific 2-6 conference record. With Kentucky facing Pittsburgh in the BBVA Compass Bowl next month, Phillips may have to game plan without his starting quarterback.
Apparently, QB Mike Hartline took the typical “let’s get drunk and fight attitude” to a local Lexington bar. In the wee hours of Friday morning, Hartline got into a verbal altercation with a woman that soon turned violent. Hartline hit a woman outside the bar and reportedly smacked her in the jaw. As a result, the inebriated QB was arrested and charged with 2nd degree disorderly conduct, alcohol intoxication, and failure to notify the department of transportation of an address change.
Hartline is the senior leader on the team who started all 12 games for Kentucky this season. Obviously his off-the-field antics are sending the wrong message to his teammates-it is not okay to drink and fight!
The university and coach Phillips are aware of Hartline’s brawl but have yet to publicly address the situation.
