WR Randall Cobb (#18) tweets about his frustration with Kentucky fans

With social media becoming an everyday lifestyle for today’s generation, players are learning the hard way that there is no more transparency in what you say, or in this case, Tweet to the world. The latest victim receiving backlash is Kentucky’s WR Randall Cobb. Cobb apparently lashed out at the Kentucky faithful for coming to the South Carolina game late, leaving early, and being more concerned about the basketball team than the football team. Cobb tweeted to the virtual world after the shocking upset win over South Carolina expressing his frustration.

A few minutes after Cobb sent the tweet, he almost immediately removed the message. He did publicly apologize and stated that “99.9 percent of the Kentucky fans are great.” Coach Joker Phillips will not punish Cobb for his Tweets. Phillips is a strong believer of free speech and will not ban players from using Twitter or any other social media sites. However, Phillips did encourage all his players to think twice before posting anything on the internet. Cobb’s teammates were very supportive as they knew his acts were more motivational and inspirational than anything else. There was no ill-will, he just wanted the fans to have faith in the program.

But nonetheless, we live in a world of constant connectivity that scrutinizes anything posted on the web. So the message learned, if you are upset or frustrated, don’t lash out in a public forum, complaining about it with your teammates in the confines of the locker room is the way to go.
