Florida State Bans Facebook, et al.

Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher is setting a strong tone in team discipline in that he will not allow his players to fall victim to the social media world.  On the eve of camp, Fisher reportedly issued a comprehensive social media ban meaning players must log-off of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter during the season.  This is a clear message that Fisher wants his players to focus on football and not be distracted by social media. To paraphrase Fisher,...

Holy Moses! McCray suffers ACL tear

As preseason football kicks off, every team is subject to injuries. This past weekend, Florida State lost defensive lineman Moses McCray on Saturday and RB Tavares Pressley on Friday. Both players tore their ACL during non-contact drills. Pressley’s injury, though grave, is not much of a loss to the Seminoles as he was buried in the depth chart and was used sparingly as a 4th string reserve back. The 6’0, 200 lbs back only amassed 40 yards on the...

FSU’s Jarmon Fortson dismissed after failed drug tests

FSU’s receiving corps took a hit this weekend as head coach Jimbo Fisher announced the dismissal of junior wide receiver Jarmon Fortson on Sunday. Fisher was silent on the reason for the dismissal but did state Fortson violated team policy. He further hinted that Fortson will no longer be enrolled at FSU. Rumors around campus link the dismissal to multiple failed drug tests. The dynamic receiver was expected to bolster Heisman hopeful Christian Ponder’s numbers in 2010. Last season,...

FSU Ponders the Heisman

As the Bobby Bowden era fades in the hands of Jimbo Fisher, Florida State strives to reclaim its dominance of yesteryear. To stir up the hype and to get the fans excited about FSU football, the university launched its official Christian Ponder for Heisman campaign. The gunslinger is entering his final season as a Seminole with the hopes of breaking out of the mediocre mold of FSU football that hasn’t won a conference championship since 2005. Ponder’s career stats...

Amato is ready to coach again

Coach Chuck Amato refuses to let his bout with cancer stop him from continuing his passion of coaching college football. The former Florida State assistant coach is doing extremely well and is showing signs of normalcy after tackling months of therapy for a cancerous tumor in his tonsils. Amato is slowly bouncing back from the treatment and is starting to eat solid foods again. Though Coach Chest (Amato’s nickname) lost over 20 pounds during this fight, he has not...

Merry Christmas, have a pink slip

The crystal ball is telling The Matador that unemployment will be on the rise in the state of Florida come 2010. It looks like when Jimbo Fisher takes the helm, he will be clearing house. Already on the list for pink slips is Dexter Carter, running backs coach, Chuck Amato, assistant coach, Todd Stroud strength coach, and Jody Allen DE coach. At least those four and maybe more will ring in 2010 with all the good folks standing in the unemployment line....

Invite Him And They Will Come

The Gator Bowl (Florida State vs. West  Virginia) has added 6,000 additional seats for FSU coach Bobby Bowden’s curtain call, bringing the stadium’s capacity to 83,500 for this year’s edition. The highly anticipated Gator Bowl sold out in a little under two hours after the match-up was announced this past Sunday. Bowden will ride off into the sunset after the January 1st tussle, leaving behind a legacy in Tallahassee. Sure the old man has lost his touch over the...
