FSU’s receiving corps took a hit this weekend as head coach Jimbo Fisher announced the dismissal of junior wide receiver Jarmon Fortson on Sunday. Fisher was silent on the reason for the dismissal but did state Fortson violated team policy. He further hinted that Fortson will no longer be enrolled at FSU. Rumors around campus link the dismissal to multiple failed drug tests.
The dynamic receiver was expected to bolster Heisman hopeful Christian Ponder’s numbers in 2010. Last season, Fortson only started in 6 games but amassed a healthy 45 receptions for 610 yards and 4 TDs.
Fortson’s playmaking ability and hands will certainly be missed, but this now opens the doors for Taiwan Easterling and Rodney Smith to take charge.
